Over the past 30 years, Life Ki-do has grown from a small martial arts school in a local Westlake gym to one of the biggest martial arts schools in Austin with martial arts classes for ages 3-adult. Life Ki-do has evolved into much more than martial arts, becoming a center for inner well-being, an educational outreach, and a resource for positive parenting.
Life Ki-do has led hundreds of workshops over the years in both public and private schools in Austin, Westlake, Tarrytown and Lakeway. Just a few of those schools are: Eanes Elementary, Bridgepoint Elementary, Hill Country Middle School, Casis Elementary, Acton Academy, Trinity Episcopal School, St. Stephen's Episcopal School, St. Matthew's Episcopal School, St. Michael's Pre-School, YPW, Casa Montessori, Athena Montessori, Parkside Montessori, Headwaters School, West Austin Youth Association (WAYA), UT Lab School.
01
GROUND TRAINING
Systema / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / Wrestling
Ground training is a crucial component in a comprehensive martial arts program. Our students learn and practice how to fall and roll safely, effective takedowns, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestling techniques, as well as Systema strikes and breaks from the ground. Aside from the practical self-defense benefits, Systema style ground skills can also greatly enhance a student’s self-confidence and ability “to go with the flow.”
02
STAND-UP TRAINING
Systema / Sparring
We incorporate moves, drills, and freestyle sparring from a variety of martial arts styles so that students may develop stand-up blocking, punching, and kicking skills. However, our emphasis in stand-up training is on the Systema principles of fluidity and partnering that involves mutual care and respect.
03
FLOW FORMS
Tai Chi / Qigong / Traditional Karate
Students learn the series of individual movements that make up a Traditional Karate Kata as well as the Yang Style Short form of Tai Chi.
The Tai Chi Form & Karate Katas build tremendous body awareness, coordination, strength, and stamina as well mental focus, confidence, and determination.
